When requesting recommendation letters (for internships, entry-level
positions, grad school, etc.) from Professor Lynne Scott Jackson,
at least 2 WEEKS ADVANCE NOTICE is appreciated.
Please provide:
> DEADLINE.
> A DRAFT OF THE LETTER; one page is sufficient. Sell yourself to the max and indicate how the position/graduate study will improve your skill set or help achieve your career goals. Include name, salutation and thoughts regarding why you want the internship or why you fit the specific job or graduate school program requirements. I'll then edit your draft, add personal comments and reflections as to your academic history, timeliness and overall work ethic and put it on my letterhead.
> Even if you’re asking me to complete an online recommendation, I’LL STILL NEED A DRAFT LETTER IN ORDER TO PROCEED.
> CURRENT RESUME.
> Include which CLASSES you took with me and SPECIAL PROJECTS where you shined or made outstanding individual / team CONTRIBUTIONS.
> You may want to discuss campus activities, advocacy / community work, or value you’ve added to various internships or full-time positions.
> Send your LinkedIn URL - SUPER IMPORTANT
> Include specifics, such as EXACT name of graduate program, university or position you’re applying for, etc. Clearly state to whom the letter should be addressed; all this can be included in your draft. If known, include --
Name
Title
Company / Institution
Complete Street Address with Floor / Suite #
City / State / Zip
Email / Phone / Fax
> Please advise as to where I should send the letter and how it should be forwarded (email, snail mail). If you plan to pick it up, your letter will be taped to my office door, CCNY - MCA, #466 Shepard, which is just to the right of the faculty mailboxes.
> Important notes:
1. Send everything as ONE COMPLETE EMAIL— not piecemeal.
2. Please DO NOT send .docx format attachments which don’t download on all computers; convert to older version of Word or send info as email body copy.
3. Do ALLOW ADEQUATE TIME for me to manage multiple priorities in order to meet your needs. Again, at least two weeks lead time is requested for all recommendations.
4. It’s not possible for me to fulfill incomplete requests.
Thanks for your adherence to the above and best of luck! I look forward to fine tuning your draft and completing your recommendation letter as you take another step toward fulfilling your dreams!
Warm Regards,
LSJ
